What is E-E-A-T in SEO?

E-E-A-T stands for Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness — the framework Google’s quality raters use to judge content. For a contractor it means demonstrating you have actually done the work: named authors with credentials, real project detail, licence and insurance information, and specifics only a practitioner would know.

Updated

Why does e-e-a-t matter for a contractor?

E-E-A-T is where trade businesses hold a genuine advantage and usually waste it. A roofer who has done a thousand roofs knows things no marketing writer can invent — and that first-hand detail is exactly what both Google and AI assistants reward. Most contractor websites read as though written by someone who has never been on site.

What does it cost to ignore it?

Generic, unattributed content competes on nothing, and in a market where every competitor claims quality and reliability, indistinguishable copy is the same as no copy.

Which engine fixes this?

Common questions

How does a contractor demonstrate E-E-A-T?

Put a real person’s name and credentials on content. Include specifics: what the job involved, what went wrong, what it cost, how long it took. Show licence numbers and insurance. Publish project detail rather than stock photography. The pattern is simple — proof a practitioner has been on site, not claims anyone could make.

Does E-E-A-T affect AI citations?

Yes. The signals overlap almost entirely with what makes content citable: named expertise, verifiable specifics, and cited sources. Princeton’s GEO research found expert quotations raised AI visibility 30% and citing sources raised it 40% — both squarely E-E-A-T behaviours.
