The best Wix alternatives each fix one problem. WordPress: the software is GPL-licensed, so you hold the files on your host[1]. Squarespace: exports only part of a site[2]. Webflow: you set robots.txt and redirects yourself[3][4]. GoDaddy Airo: Starter at $9.99 a month for the first year, auto-renewing at $179.88, labeled Beta, with code export on paid plans[5][6]. Duda: highest speed pass rate of the six, built for agencies[7][8]. BaaDigi (our offer): you own the code and edit with your own AI[9]. Whichever you pick, leaving Wix means a rebuild, because Wix says "your site must run on Wix’s servers"[10]. Speed is rarely the reason to go: 81.2% of Wix sites pass Core Web Vitals on mobile, more than Squarespace, Webflow or WordPress[11][12][13][14]. The reasons Wix’s own pages document are ownership, renewal billing and a licence to train its AI on your content[15][16]. The biggest warning: Wix blog posts cannot be exported to another platform, so copy every post before you cancel[17].
BaaDigi builds websites, mostly on Next.js, so we compete with every platform on this page. Every figure below is from the platform’s own pages or public datasets, so you can check it.
Why do people leave Wix?
Not usually for speed. Wix sites pass Google’s Core Web Vitals far more often than the average website: 81.2% on mobile and 86.8% on desktop in August 2026, against 53.0% and 60.2% across the web[11][18]. The first five reasons below come from Wix’s own pages; the last comes from Trustpilot reviews.
- You cannot take the site with you. "Since Wix is a SaaS solution, your site must run on Wix’s servers"[10]. You can export contacts, CMS data and a domain bought from Wix, but blog posts cannot be exported to other platforms[17].
- Wix’s terms let it train AI on your content. The terms of use, last revised July 9, 2026, say Wix does not claim ownership of your content but give it a worldwide, sub-licensable licence to use it, including "to train our software tools (e.g. artificial intelligence and machine learning models)"[15].
- Renewals cost more than the first bill. Anything bought at a discount, including a discounted first upgrade, renews at the standard rate, and yearly plans are charged up to three weeks before they expire[16]. A .com bought at Wix renews at $21.35 a year after the free first year[19].
- Business plan price. It was $36 a month billed yearly in an archived copy of the plans page from June 2, 2025; it is now $39. Core is unchanged at $29[20][21].
- Tracking limits. Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, and Meta and TikTok pixels do not work through Wix custom code and must go through Wix’s own marketing integrations[22].
- Customer reviews. Trustpilot rated Wix 3.4 out of 5 (“Average”) on October 1, 2026. Several individual reviews we read complain about charges after auto-renewal and hard-to-reach human support[23].
If speed is your only complaint, test your own site in Google PageSpeed Insights first. Wix scores better on mobile than three of the five alternatives below, so moving does not guarantee a faster site.
What are the best Wix alternatives?
These are the five platforms we researched in depth, not every option on the market. Prices are the entry plan most small businesses would need, as published on each platform’s pricing page on October 1, 2026. Wix is in the first row as the baseline, not as an alternative.
| Platform | First-year cost | Renewal cost | Can you export or own the site? | Who can edit it, and how | Core Web Vitals pass rate |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wix (baseline, not an alternative) | Core: $29/mo billed yearly[21] | Discounted purchases renew at the standard rate[16] | Wix says the site must run on Wix’s servers[10]; contacts, CMS data and a Wix-bought domain can be exported[24][25][26] | The Wix Harmony AI builder is included on every plan[27] | 81.2% / 86.8%[11] |
| WordPress | Self-hosted: GPL-licensed software[1]; hosting is chosen separately and WordPress.org lists hosts but no prices[28]. WordPress.com Business: $25/mo billed yearly[29] | Self-hosted: set by your host. WordPress.com Business: not printed on the pricing page, which says only that the plan auto-renews[29] | Self-hosted: the software is GPL-licensed and the files sit on your host[1]. WordPress.com: the export file holds written content, not theme or plugins; Business and Commerce plans can download a full backup[30] | Anyone you give a login; WordPress.com also lets AI agents such as ChatGPT and Claude read and edit the site[31] | 48.7% / 53.3%[14] |
| Squarespace | Core: $29/mo billed yearly[32] | Same list price unless raised; increases apply at your next renewal[33]. Core went from $23 to $29 in July 2026[34] | Partly: a WordPress-format file without your design or most page types[2] | You, in the Squarespace editor; custom code needs Core or higher[35] | 72.1% / 66.4%[12] |
| Webflow | Site plans: Premium (blog and CMS pages) $25/mo billed yearly; Basic without CMS $15/mo[36] | No separate renewal rate published; Webflow may change fees at renewal with notice[37] | Code export needs a paid Workspace plan on top, and leaves out CMS content and working forms[38] | A designer or someone with a paid Webflow seat ($39/mo full, $15/mo limited, billed yearly)[36] | 71.2% / 82.1%[13] |
| GoDaddy (Airo AI Builder) | Starter: $9.99 a month for the first 1-year term, $119.88 over the term (our calculation from the published monthly price). Professional $24.99 and Ultimate $99.99 a month. Labeled Beta[5] | Starter: “Auto-renews at $179.88” (Professional $443.88, Ultimate $1,799.88). The page does not say what period that amount covers[5] | Yes on paid plans: a ZIP of the site’s code[6][39]. The older Websites + Marketing builder: the website belongs to GoDaddy[40] | You, by prompting the AI (uses credits) or by editing text and images directly (no credits)[41] | 83.8% / 80.5% (measured for the GoDaddy Website Builder detector, which may not isolate Airo sites)[42] |
| Duda | Basic: $19/mo billed annually, $25 month-to-month; Basic has no code export. Duda is built for businesses offering sites to other businesses, so an agency’s price is not public[8] | Duda may change prices with notice[43] | Code export on Agency plans and up[8]; blog as RSS, no dynamic pages or working forms[44] | Whoever holds the account; Duda says a client who needs ownership of a site must reach out to the account owner[45] | 86.0% / 87.5%[7] |
| BaaDigi AI Website Management (our own offer) | $1,464 ($97/mo plus $300 one-time setup), month to month[9] | $1,164 a year[9] | Yes: you own the domain, code, content and lead data; the code is transferred if you leave[9] | You, with your own Claude or ChatGPT subscription; you approve each change before it publishes[9] | Not measured for this plan |
Across the whole web, 53.0% of sites passed all three Core Web Vitals on mobile and 60.2% on desktop in the same month[18]. These are platform averages from real Chrome users, not a promise for any one site.
Compare renewal, not sign-up, prices. The WordPress.com pricing page shows no renewal price for Business[29], Squarespace raised annual Core by about 26% in July 2026[34], and GoDaddy’s Airo page shows Starter at $9.99 a month for the first year with “Auto-renews at $179.88”[5].
What do you lose and keep when you move off Wix?
You can export your contacts, CMS data and a Wix-bought domain, but Wix says the site itself must run on Wix’s servers[10]. Wix’s terms say it does not claim ownership of your content[15].
- Keep: contacts, exported to a CSV file up to 50,000 at a time[24].
- Keep: CMS collections, such as the data behind location or service pages, exported to CSV[25].
- Keep: a domain bought from Wix, which can be transferred to another registrar[26].
- Lose: the running site. Wix says it must run on Wix’s servers, so moving means rebuilding it on the new platform[10].
- Lose: blog posts. Wix lists exporting them to other platforms as an open feature request, so copy each post by hand[17].
Your old page addresses need 301 redirects on the new platform, so links and search rankings follow the move. Each alternative handles that differently:
- WordPress: the free Redirection plugin manages 301 redirects and logs 404 errors[46].
- Squarespace: the URL Mappings panel, up to about 2,500 redirect lines[47].
- Webflow: a built-in redirect manager with wildcards on paid plans; Webflow recommends 1,000 rules at most[4].
- Duda: built-in 301 redirects with wildcards and CSV import of up to 200 per file[48].
- GoDaddy: we found no page-by-page redirect tool in GoDaddy’s US help; its domain forwarding moves a whole domain, not single pages[49].
Before you cancel Wix: copy every blog post, page text and original photo, export contacts and CMS collections, and list every page address so each gets a redirect. Wix charges yearly plans up to three weeks before they expire, so set your cancellation well ahead of the renewal date[16].
Can you edit the site yourself with AI on each alternative?
Wix already includes an AI builder: Wix Harmony, launched in January 2026, comes with every plan including the free one[50][27]. Here is what the pages we read document for each alternative.
- WordPress: WordPress 7.0, released May 2026, added an AI Client in core that lets WordPress talk to generative AI models[51]. On WordPress.com you can let outside AI agents such as ChatGPT, Claude and Cursor read and edit your site[31].
- Squarespace: its AI Visibility tool uses AI credits to check how often ChatGPT or Gemini mention your site[52]. An AI tool for editing site content is not documented in the pages we read.
- Webflow: extra AI credits cost $20 a month billed yearly for 2,000 credits[36]. Its AEO agents need the Team plan at $2,500 a month on an annual contract, or Enterprise[36]; fixes are written to your pages only when you accept a technical recommendation[53].
- GoDaddy Airo: the whole site is built and changed by prompting the AI, which uses monthly credits that do not roll over; extra packs are 250 credits for $24.99. Direct text and image edits use no credits[41][54]. You can also view and edit the generated code[54].
- Duda: its plans list AI that performs SEO and AEO agentically and generates image alt text, and its Copilot and custom widget builder run on monthly AI credits[8]. Its July 2026 Duda Vibe editor is aimed at agencies[55].
BaaDigi’s AI Website Management works differently[9]:
- We rebuild your current site on Next.js, up to 15 standard pages, host it on Vercel with Cloudflare in front, filter form spam, deliver and log your leads, install analytics and give technical support. E-commerce, membership sites, web apps, portals and large migrations are quoted separately[9].
- You make your own changes with your own Claude or ChatGPT subscription. Content is kept separate from code, and the AI may change content only[9].
- Each change is previewed, checked automatically and approved by you before it publishes, and every change can be rolled back[9].
- It is $97 a month plus a one-time $300 setup, month to month with no contract. There are no done-for-you content changes on this plan[9].
AI credits are a running cost on GoDaddy, Webflow and Duda. Check how many edits a month your plan covers before you rely on AI for routine changes.
How many AI-recommended businesses use each alternative?
In BaaDigi’s study of 511 local contractor websites named by ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google AI Overviews, 49.3% ran on WordPress (95% confidence interval 45.0–53.6%), 6.8% on Duda (5.0–9.4%), 6.5% on Wix (4.6–8.9%), 2.9% on GoDaddy Website Builder (1.8–4.8%), 2.7% on Squarespace (1.6–4.5%), 2.5% on Hibu, which is built on Duda (1.5–4.3%), and 2.2% on Webflow (1.2–3.8%)[56].
Correlation only. These shares mostly track how common each platform is. The study cannot show that any platform helps or hurts a business’s chance of being recommended by AI.
Which Wix alternative fits you?
- WordPress is likely a fit if you want GPL-licensed software and files you hold on your own host, and someone will keep plugins updated[1]. It has the lowest Core Web Vitals pass rate of the six platforms, so check your speed after the move[14].
- Squarespace is likely a fit if you have one location, want a standard template site, and accept that leaving later means another rebuild[2].
- Webflow is likely a fit if a designer will build and run the site and you want direct control of robots.txt and redirects[3][4].
- GoDaddy Airo is likely a fit if you want the lowest entry price among the plans in the table ($9.99 a month for the first year) and are comfortable building by prompting an AI. Plan for the auto-renew amount ($179.88 on Starter), and remember the builder is labeled Beta[5].
- Duda is likely a fit if an agency you trust will build it, and your contract says the site and domain move to you if you leave[45].
- BaaDigi AI Website Management is likely a fit if you want to own the code and data and make your own changes with your own AI subscription, with each change approved before it goes live[9].
- Staying on Wix is reasonable if the site is fast, you have no plans to move, and you are comfortable with its terms on AI training[15].
Frequently asked questions
- What is the best alternative to Wix?
- It depends on why you are leaving. WordPress is GPL-licensed software you host yourself, Squarespace exports only part of a site, Webflow lets you set robots.txt and redirects, GoDaddy Airo has the lowest entry price in our table ($9.99 a month for year one, auto-renewing at $179.88, labeled Beta), and Duda has the highest speed pass rate and is built for agencies. BaaDigi’s AI Website Management rebuilds the site so you own the code and edit it with your own AI subscription.
- Can I export my Wix site to another platform?
- Not as a running site. Wix says your site must run on its servers. You can export contacts and CMS collections to CSV and transfer a domain bought from Wix, but blog posts cannot be exported, so moving means rebuilding the site elsewhere.
- Is Wix cheaper than Squarespace?
- At the entry level for most small businesses they match: Wix Core and Squarespace Core are both $29 a month billed yearly as of October 2026. Squarespace raised its annual Core price from $23 to $29 in July 2026, and Wix renews discounted purchases at the standard rate, so compare renewal prices.
- Which Wix alternative is fastest?
- On August 2026 Core Web Vitals data, Duda passed most often at 86.0% of sites on mobile, then GoDaddy Website Builder at 83.8%. Wix itself passed 81.2%, ahead of Squarespace, Webflow and WordPress.
- Will I lose my Google rankings if I leave Wix?
- You can keep most of them if every old page address gets a 301 redirect to its new page. WordPress (with a plugin), Squarespace, Webflow and Duda all support page-level 301 redirects. We found no page-by-page redirect tool in GoDaddy’s help.
