HVAC Marketing Ideas That Fill the Schedule

The best HVAC marketing ideas start with searches that already have a repair call attached. In SearchLight's February 2026 Local Services Ads study, HVAC leads averaged $51 with a 44.0% book rate, while its separate January 2026 HVAC and plumbing Google Ads study put non-branded search at $149 per lead. These are different samples, not a matched channel comparison. Cover those first, then fix your Google Business Profile, publish answer-first service pages, and answer every phone lead fast.

Can an AI agent actually use your website?
AI agents are starting to visit sites on a customer's behalf — comparing companies and requesting quotes. We run the same agentic browsing checks Google built into Chrome and show you what an agent hits when it lands on your site. No email to run it.
Which HVAC marketing ideas cost the least per lead?
Start with the numbers. SearchLight Digital tracks real contractor accounts. These are its two 2026 HVAC datasets, and the service-line rows are non-branded Google Ads only.
| Idea | Reported cost per lead | Sample |
|---|---|---|
| Google Local Services Ads, HVAC | $51 | 409 accounts, $1.52M spend, Feb 2026 (SearchLight) |
| Branded search (people who typed your name) | $34 | 816 HVAC and plumbing contractors, Jan 2026 (SearchLight) |
| Performance Max | $72 | Same dataset |
| Non-branded search, heating repair | $144 | 137 accounts |
| Non-branded search, general HVAC | $198 | 432 accounts |
| Non-branded search, AC repair | $231 | 101 accounts |
| Non-branded search, heating install | $354 | 25 accounts, small sample |
Two readings matter. Branded searchers already know your name, but they may still be first-time customers. Separate branded demand from non-branded acquisition when evaluating campaigns. And the big-ticket installs cost the most per lead, which is normal. Judge each by cost per booked appointment and, beyond that, by completed jobs, not cost per lead.
Are Local Services Ads worth it for HVAC?
For most shops they are the first test to run. SearchLight reports HVAC LSA leads at $51 average with a 44.0% book rate and a $2,110 average ticket, and says HVAC had the highest closed return on ad spend (9.55x) of any trade in that dataset. That is a sample of 409 accounts, not a promise for your market. Google also says lead price "may vary depending on your location, the job type, the type of lead, or your bidding mode." Set a weekly budget, answer every call, and watch which leads Google credits.
How do you get more calls from your Google Business Profile?
Treat it as your second website. Across 48 BaaDigi client Google Business Profiles over the 12 months to September 2026, 58.0% of impressions came from Search and 42.0% from Maps, and 87.9% were on mobile. Among 45 profiles (114 profile-months with at least 25 recorded days, July to September 2026), the median profile-month brought 9 calls and the top quarter brought 24 or more. Those profiles are not all HVAC, and the data does not measure what any single profile change did, but the gap between profiles is large.
What may help close that gap, as a recommendation rather than a proven cause: the right primary category, every service you actually sell, real photos of your trucks and crews, fast replies to reviews, and a phone number that gets picked up. These are not new tricks. They are the ones most shops leave half done. Pick one afternoon, go through the profile line by line, and write down each gap before you touch your ad budget. A free fix beats a paid click every time.
Does website speed change how many HVAC leads you get?
We cannot isolate it. One Southern Maryland HVAC client's leads increased after a broader website rebuild on Next.js, and we cannot separate speed's contribution from the rest of the rebuild. Treat it as one client's story, not proof that speed alone moves leads. Our HVAC SEO service starts with speed and crawl checks because a slow, hard-to-crawl site is a fair thing to fix before paying for more traffic.
What should an HVAC service page say to get picked by ChatGPT and Google?
Answer the question in the first two sentences, then show the proof. A page titled "AC repair in [city]" should open with what the visit costs, how fast you arrive, and which brands you service. Publish verified prices so readers and AI systems can compare your services. A published price does not guarantee a citation.
It is worth checking where AI engines look. In our own tracker, 12 HVAC prompts produced a citation of baadigi.com in 11.1% of 504 ChatGPT and Perplexity runs between September 1 and October 27, 2026. Those prompts were written by BaaDigi, so read that as our own result, not a market average. Reddit appeared frequently in answers to our HVAC marketing questions, with reddit.com the most-cited domain at 258 citations. Those prompts asked about HVAC agencies, lead platforms and marketing costs, so these results do not show where homeowners research HVAC services.
How fast do you need to answer HVAC leads?
As fast as you can, because a call that goes to voicemail is a lead you already paid for. Pick up the phone, text back missed calls, and follow up on every install quote for weeks, not days, since large purchases often take a while to decide. We are not citing a conversion benchmark here because we could not verify the populations and definitions behind the published ones.
How do you tell whether an HVAC marketing idea worked?
Count booked appointments and completed jobs, not leads. Cost per booked appointment is cost per lead divided by the share that book. As an illustration using SearchLight's HVAC LSA figures, $51 divided by a 44.0% book rate comes to an estimated $116 per booked appointment. SearchLight's book rate measures appointments, not completed, paying jobs. Do the same math on every channel you run, then evaluate completed-job acquisition cost and contribution margin separately, because ticket values and margins differ by channel.
Keep the tracking simple. Use a call tracking number or a form source field on each channel, write down who booked, and review it once a month. If you cannot trace a job back to a source, you cannot know which idea paid for itself. Most shops that tell us "marketing is not working" have never had that list.
Which HVAC marketing ideas should you do first?
- If you have no steady inbound calls: start with Local Services Ads and a complete Google Business Profile. Both are priced per lead or free.
- If you already run ads but cannot say what a booked job costs: track calls to booked appointments and completed jobs before adding spend. Compare against the table above.
- If your site is slow or thin: fix the site before paying for more traffic. See the HVAC marketing benchmarks to compare your numbers.
- If you are choosing an agency: read HVAC marketing agencies compared first, including who publishes a rate card.
- Do not buy yet: any plan that cannot tell you what it will report each month.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a good cost per lead for HVAC Google Ads?▼
SearchLight's January 2026 data across 816 HVAC and plumbing contractors shows a blended $104 per lead, $34 branded, $149 non-branded and $72 on Performance Max. Judge yours against non-branded.
How much do Local Services Ads cost for HVAC companies?▼
SearchLight's February 2026 dataset of 409 HVAC accounts reports an average of $51 per lead, a 44.0% book rate and a $2,110 average ticket. Google sets the actual price by auction, so your market, job type and lead type change it, and Google does not publish a price list by trade. Start with a small weekly budget, answer every call, and review which leads Google credits back before you raise the spend. Judge the channel by cost per booked appointment, an estimated $116 on those averages, and then by completed jobs and margin, not by the headline lead price alone.
Do HVAC leads from a Google Business Profile matter?▼
Yes. Across 48 BaaDigi client profiles, 58.0% of impressions came from Search and 42.0% from Maps over 12 months, and 87.9% were on mobile. The median profile-month from July to September 2026 produced 9 calls (45 profiles, months with at least 25 recorded days; not HVAC-specific). We recommend a complete profile and answering the phone, but this data does not show that either one causes the difference.
How long does HVAC SEO take to bring in calls?▼
No honest number applies to every market. In one Southern Maryland HVAC client's broader website rebuild, leads increased, but we cannot isolate speed's contribution or promise the same pace. Local competition, your reviews and the state of your site decide the pace. Ask any vendor what will be reported each month rather than for a date.
Should an HVAC company publish prices on its website?▼
Yes, where you can stand behind them. Publish verified prices so readers and AI systems can compare your services. A published price does not guarantee a citation. Publish what you actually charge, label what changes by job, and never invent a number you cannot honor.
What is the best marketing idea for a small HVAC company with no budget?▼
Complete your Google Business Profile, ask every happy customer for a review, and answer every call. The cheapest gain is not missing the call. After that, test Local Services Ads with a small weekly budget before you pay for anything with a retainer.
