What Is Agentic Browsing?

What is agentic browsing?
Agentic browsing is an AI system navigating a website to finish a person's task: comparing services, finding a price, filling in an inquiry form. Agents use screenshots, page structure, accessibility data or tools, so test whether a specific task succeeds instead of assuming every agent reads a site the same way. In BaaDigi's August 2026 scan of 97 sites, 39 carried a needs-fix status and 6 could not be scanned.
Why does this matter to a business website?
A visitor may use an agent to compare services, find prices, or prepare an inquiry. Clear labels, understandable choices, stable controls, and accurate information make those tasks easier to test. A readiness score alone does not prove that an agent can finish the task or that an AI search system will recommend the business.
Can an AI agent actually use your website?
AI agents are starting to visit sites on a customer's behalf — comparing companies and requesting quotes. We run the same agentic browsing checks Google built into Chrome and show you what an agent hits when it lands on your site. No email to run it.

Can browser agents see the page?
Some can. OpenAI's Computer-Using Agent description explains a screenshot-based perception loop. Other systems or workflows can use structured page information and tools. The older claim that an agent cannot see layout or color was too broad.
That is why a useful test names the agent and conditions. A barrier for one method may affect another differently. Good structure still matters, but it should not be sold as proof that every visual or nonvisual task will work.
Which website problems deserve attention?
| Observed condition | Why to investigate | Useful verification |
|---|---|---|
| Unnamed button or link | The intended action is unclear | Confirm the control has an accurate accessible name and usable visible context |
| Unlabeled form field | The purpose of the input may be ambiguous | Check the label association and complete a test entry |
| Control moves during loading | A position-based action can target the wrong place | Observe the loaded state and rerun the intended interaction |
| Error without a recovery step | The user or agent may not know how to proceed | Trigger a controlled error and verify the explanation |
| Unclear service or price information | The system may not have enough reliable facts to answer the task | Read the page against the requested decision |
The W3C's form-labeling guidance explains how controls should be associated with their purpose. Treat this as an accessibility and usability issue in its own right, not merely an AI tactic.
The basics are not universal either. Across 1,047 free BaaDigi website audits (Mar–Sep 2026), 82.0% of sites were mobile responsive, the median mobile PageSpeed score was 61 and 22.1% of sites scored under 50. A page that loads slowly and shifts as it loads is harder for a person and for a position-based agent alike. Fix that before worrying about which agent is reading the site, and read the LLM SEO guide for the separate question of whether an assistant names the business at all.

What does Lighthouse measure?
Chrome's Lighthouse documentation describes an experimental agentic-browsing category using deterministic checks, including accessibility, stability, discovery, and WebMCP-related inspection. A check result is evidence about the tested condition, not a certification that every task succeeds.
BaaDigi's agent-readiness checker implements accessibility-related checks, layout stability, and an llms.txt check. Its current remote implementation does not perform WebMCP browser-level inspection. Read applicable and unavailable results as shown; do not compare different denominators as if the checks were identical.
What did our historical site scan find?
The recovered August 13, 2026 snapshot has 97 records: 52 labeled clean, 39 needs-fix, and 6 unscannable. Those status labels describe stored audit results. They do not establish that 39 agents attempted and failed a booking task.
Some records used two scored checks and others three. The six unavailable site scans are also not the exact same six records with undetermined AI mention status. Keep those measurements separate. See the historical audit's methodology limits before using the counts in a comparison.
How do you test a customer task safely?
- Name the task. For example, find the service area and identify how to request an estimate.
- Define completion. Specify the information or page the test must reach.
- Use a controlled environment for submissions. Agree on a test procedure before creating inquiries, reservations, or purchases.
- Record the conditions. Save the URL, final destination, date, agent, mode, and relevant starting context.
- Capture the barrier. Keep the failing step and the visible or structural evidence.
- Fix and retest. Repeat the same task and check the human experience too.
A test that finds the form is different from one that submits it successfully. Mark the actual completion boundary. Do not report the later step as passed if it was intentionally not attempted.
Is agent readiness the same as AI search visibility?
No. Usability concerns what can happen on the website. Search visibility concerns whether a system presents the business or cites a source. The AI citation guide explains that measurement separately. A useful technical fix can improve a task without changing any sampled recommendation.
What does an initial check cost?
BaaDigi's initial agent-readiness scan is free; the detailed fix-list flow asks for an email address. The separate AI Visibility Audit costs $497 for its stated scope. It is not a complete accessibility, security, or universal agent-compatibility certification.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do all AI browser agents navigate without seeing the page?▼
No. Some use screenshots, some use structured page data or tools, and workflows combine methods. Name the system and mode you tested; a claim about every agent is too broad.
Does passing a readiness scan prove an agent can submit my form?▼
No. The scan checks specified conditions. Submitting a form is a separate task that must be tested under an agreed procedure, and a report should say whether the test stopped before submission.
Does fixing accessibility guarantee AI search citations?▼
No, and the two should be measured separately. Accessibility and usability repairs improve the experience for a visitor and for an agent acting on a visitor's behalf; they do not make ChatGPT or Perplexity recommend the business. Our own audit data makes the point: across 1,047 free audits (Mar–Sep 2026) 82.0% of sites were mobile responsive and 93.7% used HTTPS, yet only 23.2% of the 254 businesses with a Perplexity check were named for their own service-and-city query. Technical health is common and being named is rare, so the fix that helps a form work is not the fix that earns a citation. A useful repair stays useful even when the sampled AI answer does not change.
What does BaaDigi’s free agent-readiness checker cover?▼
Accessibility-related conditions, layout stability and an llms.txt check. It does not perform WebMCP browser-level inspection. The initial scan is free; the detailed fix-list flow asks for an email address. It is not a certification.
Did the August study prove 39 websites were unusable by agents?▼
No. 39 of 97 records carried a needs-fix status, with 52 clean and 6 unscannable. Those are audit statuses, not observed failures by every agent or a completed booking test, and check counts varied between records.

LLM SEO? What Will They Think of Next?

Does ChatGPT SEO Exist? What Gets a Contractor Named
ChatGPT SEO is real but it is not Google SEO with a new name. Our tracker shows ChatGPT cites a different set of sources from Perplexity and AI Overviews. Here is what that means for a contractor site.
AEO vs SEO: Is AEO Replacing SEO for Contractors?
AEO is commonly used to describe work intended to make information useful in answer-based discovery, while SEO addresses visibility in search. For contractors, the practical work overlaps: accurate service information, useful pages and a dependable customer path. Add AI-specific observation where it informs decisions, but do not buy a claim that ordinary SEO has become irrelevant.
