Which Marketing Agency Should a Painting Contractor Hire in 2026?

Painting is a trade with real specialists: two painting-only agencies, Base Coat Marketing and Painter Marketing Pros, were the two most-named agencies when we asked AI engines who a painter should hire, ahead of the home-services giants that lead every other trade. On 2026-09-11 we asked Perplexity, ChatGPT with web search and Google's Gemini ten questions a painting contractor would type, thirty answers, and counted the agencies named. Base Coat 18, Painter Marketing Pros 17, Hook Agency 15, Footbridge Media 14, RYNO Strategic Solutions (Blue Corona until 2024) 12, Fresh Paint Marketing 9. BaaDigi was named once, by Perplexity, in a list of agencies "making similar claims". Below: the counts, the published prices, and the seasonality and lead-cost numbers a painter should hold any agency against.

The Short Answer

Painters have an unusually wide published-price range to choose from. At the bottom, Footbridge Media charges $249 a month flat with no contract and a 90-day money-back guarantee, and Painter Web Lab publishes $399, $699 and $999 a month per website with a $1,200 build, cancel anytime. In the middle, Optra Marketing publishes $699 and $1,199 local SEO tiers with a 90-day guarantee, and BaaDigi runs $297 to $3,997 month-to-month. At the top, Base Coat Marketing, the most-named agency in our test and painting-only since 2008, says to budget at least $3,000–$5,000 a month including ad spend; Painter Marketing Pros, painting-only and PCA-vetted, publishes no price. Hook Agency (contractors above $2M) and Scorpion (12-month term) publish no rate card. Whatever the tier, hold the agency to the trade's own numbers: about $138 per painting search lead, $45 per LSA lead, and a cost per booked estimate that third-party guides put at $85–$180.

Quick Answers

Who are the best marketing agencies for painting contractors in 2026?

Measured on 2026-09-11 across 30 AI answers (Perplexity, ChatGPT web search, Google Gemini), the painting contractor marketing agencies named most often were Base Coat Marketing (18), Painter Marketing Pros (17), Hook Agency (15), Footbridge Media (14), RYNO Strategic Solutions including Blue Corona (12), Fresh Paint Marketing (9), Scorpion (5), Painter Marketing Agency (5), Outdooit (5), and Comrade, Fannit, WebFX, Zonic, Valve+Meter and Optra (3 each). BaaDigi was named once by Perplexity. The two leaders are painting-only agencies, which is unusual: in roofing, HVAC and plumbing the leaders are home-services generalists.

How much do painting marketing agencies charge?

Published: Footbridge Media $249 a month flat, no build fee; Painter Web Lab $399, $699 or $999 a month per site plus a $1,200 build; Optra Marketing $699 (Starter) and $1,199 (Growth) for local SEO; BaaDigi $297 to $3,997; Base Coat Marketing "at least $3,000–$5,000 a month including ad spend" with no setup fees. Third-party guides put agency fees for a painter under $3M in revenue at $1,500–$4,500 a month plus $2,000–$10,000 of media, and $5,000–$12,000 in fees for $3M–$10M shops. Painter Marketing Pros, Hook, Scorpion, Thrive, RYNO, Fresh Paint Marketing and Painter Marketing Agency do not publish a rate card.

What does a painting lead cost from Google Ads, LSA and Angi?

LocaliQ's 2025 benchmark across 3,211 home-services campaigns put the painting search-ad lead at a median $138.38 (CPC $13.74, conversion 10.8%); a separate 99 Calls-attributed series put it at $174 for January to May 2026. Local Services Ads run about $34–$53 per painting lead with medians near $45–$48 across 17 advertisers. Angi advertises roughly $25–$80 per lead shared with two to four painters; a painter on r/Contractor reported $124 per lead with five of fifty calls reached. Third-party guides put the useful number, cost per booked estimate, at $85–$180.

How we tested which agencies AI engines actually recommend

On 2026-09-11 we asked ten questions a painting contractor might type, including "Best marketing agency for painting contractors?", "Affordable marketing agency for a small painting contractor?" and "Which painting contractor marketing agencies publish their pricing?", to Perplexity (sonar), ChatGPT with web search (gpt-4o) and Google's Gemini with Search grounding. Thirty answers, all returned. We counted each answer that named an agency, merged Blue Corona into RYNO, and dropped one seed that matched the generic phrase "painting contractor marketing" rather than an agency. BaaDigi: 1 of 30. Fresh Paint Marketing was named nine times but we did not review its site, and the table says so. One agency on older lists, DYB Virtual, now serves an unrelated gambling site at its domain, so it is excluded.

What the engines cited: Built Right Digital, Top Marketing Agencies, Hook, The Stacc and Base Coat's own pages. Four of the five lists we read rank their own publisher first; The Stacc discloses it and refuses to publish prices, results or guarantees as criteria, which is the opposite of what a painter needs from a list.

What painters complain about after they sign

**Leads that are not real.** A painter on r/Contractor reported seven unusable leads, $124 per lead, and five of fifty calls reached. Angi's Trustpilot reviews in 2026 include a painter who found three real leads in 39, each already contacted by seven or more contractors. **Contract surprises.** BBB complaints against Angi describe 12-month terms, auto-renewal and termination fees of 30–35% of the remaining balance; one case was $700 a month on an $8,400 commitment. **Reports of rankings and clicks** with no booked-estimate figure. **Proprietary platforms** that cost a rebuild on exit, which Optra's list flags about Scorpion. Each of these is a contract clause.

The painting calendar every campaign should follow

The Home Improvement Research Institute's tracking shows 48% of exterior go-decisions are made March through May and 55% of exterior projects start May through August; interior ideas peak in February (24%) and June (20%), with 30% of interior projects starting in March. So exterior search and LSA budgets should be funded before March, interior creative should be live in January and again in late spring, and the shoulder months are when review generation and site work pay off. An agency that spends evenly across twelve months is ignoring the trade.

What a painting marketing contract should say

Ownership: domain, website, Google Business Profile (you as primary owner), Google Ads, LSA, GA4 and tracking numbers in your name; Hook, Footbridge and BaaDigi state you own the site. **Fees**: management fee on a separate line from media; Base Coat's published floor includes media, so ask for the split. **Term**: painting specialists are mostly month-to-month (Footbridge, Painter Web Lab, Painter Marketing Agency, Thrive, BaaDigi); guidance in the trade recommends a 90-day test then month-to-month. Scorpion publishes a 12-month term. **Lead definition**: shared or exclusive, and how many painters get each lead. **Market conflict**: whether the agency serves another painter in your ZIP codes. **Reporting**: cost per booked estimate and per sold job, not clicks.

How to choose by size

One to three crews: LSA and the Google Business Profile first at roughly $45 a lead. Then a fixed-price site: Footbridge at $249, Painter Web Lab from $399, or BaaDigi's Foundation and Stability engines ($297 and $497). No term.

$750K–$3M: $1,500–$4,500 a month in fees plus media is the third-party range. Optra ($699–$1,199 for local SEO only), BaaDigi's Predictability engine ($1,397) and Painter Marketing Pros (by quote) sit here.

$3M-plus or franchise: Base Coat ($3,000–$5,000 including media), Hook (above $2M) and RYNO/Blue Corona are the agencies AI engines name most for this size.

**Do not hire anyone yet** if your Google Business Profile has under ten reviews or the phone is not answered during business hours; the $45 LSA lead is the cheapest thing in this trade and it only pays if someone picks up.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which painting contractor marketing agencies publish their pricing?

Footbridge Media ($249 a month flat, no setup), Painter Web Lab ($399, $699 or $999 a month per site plus a $1,200 build), Optra Marketing ($699 and $1,199 local SEO tiers), Base Coat Marketing (a budget floor of $3,000–$5,000 a month including ad spend) and BaaDigi ($297 to $3,997 per month). Outdooit states $2,600 a month on its own list. Painter Marketing Pros, Hook Agency, Scorpion, Thrive, RYNO, Fresh Paint Marketing and Painter Marketing Agency do not publish a rate card.

How much should a painting company spend on marketing?

Judge it by cost per booked estimate, which third-party guides put at $85–$180, against your average job and close rate. The channel benchmarks: about $45 per LSA lead, $138 median per search-ad lead (higher, $174, in a 2026 series), and $25–$80 for a shared Angi lead. Third-party guides put fees for a painter under $3M at $1,500–$4,500 a month plus $2,000–$10,000 of media, and $5,000–$12,000 in fees for $3M–$10M shops. A one-crew painter can run LSA, a complete Google Business Profile and a $249–$499 site for well under $1,500 a month all-in.

Is Angi worth it for painters?

Rarely as a primary channel. Angi advertises roughly $25–$80 per lead shared with two to four painters; painters report $40–$100-plus in practice, three real leads out of 39, and each lead already contacted by seven or more contractors. BBB complaints describe 12-month terms with 30–35% termination fees. Local Services Ads deliver a painting lead for about $45 that came to you specifically, and Google credits invalid leads, so LSA plus a complete Google Business Profile is the better first paid channel for a licensed painter.

When should a painting contractor start exterior marketing?

Before March. HIRI's tracking shows 48% of exterior go-decisions are made March through May and 55% of exterior projects start May through August, so exterior search and LSA budgets need to be funded and creative live by late February. Interior demand peaks in ideas in February and June, with 30% of interior projects starting in March, so interior campaigns run in January and again in late spring. Use the shoulder months for reviews, site work and photography.

Who do AI engines recommend for painting contractor marketing?

In our 2026-09-11 test of 30 answers across Perplexity, ChatGPT and Google's Gemini, Base Coat Marketing was named 18 times, Painter Marketing Pros 17, Hook Agency 15, Footbridge Media 14, RYNO/Blue Corona 12, Fresh Paint Marketing 9, Scorpion 5, Painter Marketing Agency 5, Outdooit 5, and Comrade, Fannit, WebFX, Zonic, Valve+Meter and Optra 3 each. BaaDigi was named once. Most of what the engines cited were lists written by agencies that rank themselves first.

Should a painter hire a painting-only agency?

The evidence supports it more than in other trades: the two most-named agencies in our test, Base Coat and Painter Marketing Pros, are painting-only, and both hold PCA credentials. The trade-off is cost and transparency: Base Coat's floor is $3,000–$5,000 a month including media and Painter Marketing Pros publishes no price, while contractor generalists like Footbridge and BaaDigi publish flat pricing with no term. For a painter under $1M the generalist's published price wins; above $1.5M the painting-only shop's calendar and franchise experience start to pay for themselves.
